The Temporary Protection Directive gives displaced persons in the Netherlands the right to shelter and medical care. It also provides the opportunity to work and regulates the right to education to minors. Municipalities are largely responsible for implementing the Directive. Nearly all larger municipalities have their own municipal accommodation facilities. In addition, displaced persons can use private shelters. RefugeeHomeNL was founded to coordinate the private reception and to ensure a safe and humane reception of private individuals. Until september 1, 2023, host families and refugees could apply for participation.
